CrossFit is without a doubt one of the best-known brands when it comes to fitness. There are thousands of branches in countries worldwide. There are the CrossFit games taking place every year with growing numbers of participants. Simply put, if you’re looking to be part of something huge within the fitness world, it’s CrossFit. So how do you start your own?
Choose a Name
This might seem like a formality, but choosing the right name for your new CrossFit gym can go a long way to attracting people from within your target audience. Additionally, it can help to establish your business within the world of CrossFit. If you want to be known as part of this worldwide community, you can’t choose a name like “Mike’s Gym.” Many CrossFit gym owners add the word CrossFit right in the name to let everyone know what to expect when they step through the door. Bear in mind, however, that in order to get the CrossFit name added to your gym, you have to become an official CrossFit affiliate, which does cost money. Find the right name for your new gym and you’re off to a great start.
Find the Right Location
Location, location, location. Finding a good spot to open up your gym is crucial to bringing in new members and can help you get situated within your target market. However, choosing a good location isn’t just about where you’ll be located geographically. It also includes what type of location you find. Is it big enough for the types of workouts you’re looking to accomplish? Is it easy to find for people driving, walking or taking public transportation? Are there areas outside that can be utilized for different workouts? All of these factors and more come into play when securing your location so make sure you do some research and find the right spot for you.
Get Certified and Registered
Once you know where you’re going to open up your CrossFit gym, you need to know how you’re going to actually run the place. In case you’re not already certified, you need to become a level 1 CrossFit trainer. This costs $1,000 and includes a course that is taken over the weekend. You can progress all the way up to level 4 trainer status, but you only need level 1 to open up a gym.
Depending on where your CrossFit gym is located you may also need to secure certain registrations, insurances or licenses. Make sure to reach out to other fitness businesses in the area to find out exactly what you may need.
Get the Right Tools
As you probably already know, CrossFit gyms require equipment that is specialized to the type of workouts that you’ll be offering. When you’re just starting out, you don’t need to go overboard in the equipment department, but you should have some essential equipment to get things going – barbells, kettlebells, bands and exercise balls. As your gym progresses you can always add more equipment based on the needs of your workouts and your members.
If you want to take your CrossFit gym even further, you need to find a way to attract more members, engage with your current ones and stay on top of your revenue and sales. A key tool for making all this happen is a CrossFit management platform that will centralize all your operations in one place.
